Power Spectra´s E-OR 230 brings affordable, laser-based measuring accuracy to industrial and other demanding applications. The E-OR 230 uses a short high power pulsed laser to measure the time-of-flight to the target and back, for distance, speed and acceleration measurements. The ultra-short optical pulse width, generated using Power Spectra´s proprietary gallium arsenide (GaAs) PSIristor(TM) switching technology, provides both high range resolution and eye safety. Typical applications include diameter measurement of material rolls, liquid and material level sensing, profiling, safety monitoring, and equipment collision warning/avoidance. Compact size and a flexible computer interface makes the E-OR 230 particularly adaptable to robotics applications. It can be programmed to provide a high update rate of both range and range rate information. Conversely, a straightforward analog range output gives the casual user a friendly interface for less demanding functions. Range gating is provided to reject undesired targets or interference, such as a viewing window. A built-in viewfinder is also included for ease of alignment and aiming.

The E-OR 230 is a time-of-flight laser rangefinder in which the round trip travel time of a single pulse of light is measured and the distance calculated based on the speed of light. Since the speed of light remains relatively constant in any atmospheric condition, laser rangefinders are immune to air density variations typically attributed to temperature and gas stratification effects. In addition, the light´s short wavelength, compared to that of ultrasonic and microwave/radar technologies, allows the beam to be reflected back to the rangefinder from a target in virtually any orientation. The beam is highly collimated allowing measurement of small targets at large distances.

The E-OR 230 is optimized for stability and repeatability for use in short to mid range applications. The proprietary technology utilized within the E-OR 230 allows the generation of extremely short, powerful measurement pulses which result in industry leading single shot accuracy. The single shot accuracy allows the unit the versatility to address both high accuracy and high speed applications. In high accuracy applications, averaging achieves sub-centimeter accuracy with a measurement rate of up to 15 Hz. The optional high pulse rate upgrade realizes similar sub-centimeter accuracy with a measurement rate of up to 150 Hz; this upgrade would typically not be considered eye safe [FDA Class IIIb].

The E-OR 230 is microprocessor controlled and can be programmed for a number of operating modes. Windows 95 compatible software and the bi-directional RS232 port are used to control the E-OR 230. The programmable operating parameters include measurement units, number of shots per measurement, measurement update rate, measurement offset, minimum / maximum range gate and 4-20 mA analog limits..

The E-OR 230 can accept 10-30 VDC power, which allows for standalone 12 V battery operation or conventional 24 VDC plant power supply.
