The PCI2PC104p (PCI to PC/104p - PCI-104) adapter/carrier converter card provides the ability to install a PC104p or PCI-104 card into a standard PCI slot. The PCI2PC104p has a PC104p and PCI-104 compatible card slot mounted to a universal 1/2 length PCI card.

The PCI bus is buffered with series resistors and clamped with Schotky diodes. The PCI clock is distributed with a zero delay buffer. The PCI2PC104p design is passive with no added delays to access the PC104p/PCI-104 hardware. The traces are carefully routed with proper attention paid to the impedance and reference planes to maximize compatibility with your PCI system. The passive design of the PCI2PC104p reduces system latency.

The PCI bus is interconnected to the PC104 via 32 bit 66 MHz capable layout. The slower and more narrow device will determine the interface characteristics. M66EN is supported via interconnect to the PC104p or PCI-104 device and user shunt.

The PCI VIO is interconnected to the PC/104p directly. The PCI backplane will determine the bus voltage reference. It is left to the user to properly select the PC/104p and PCI motherboard for PCI voltage level considerations. Many PC104p and PCI-104 designs are "universal" and can work with 3.3 or 5V PCI backplanes. If you need to use a 3.3V card on a 5V backplane or vice-versa, please contact Dynamic Engeering about a bridged version of the PCI2PC104p.

The PCI2PC104p follows the PC104p specs for maximum power consumption and heat dissipation. The 5V, 3.3V, and +/- 12V lines are supported with mini-planes with more capacity than the installed PC104p or PCI-104 is allowed to draw.

The IO area allowed by the PC104p and PCI-104 specifications are left clear to allow for standard cable options based on the module installed.

Size
The PCI2PC104p is a half-length PCI board, which conforms to the PCI mechanical specifications eliminating mechanical interference issues. The PCI2PC104p can be used in all PCI slots including the new narrow chassis.
PC104p and PCI-104 Compatibility
The PCI2PC104p is PC104p and PCI-104 compliant per the specification. All Dynamic Engineering PC104p and PCI-104 modules are compatible with the PCI2PC104p. All other PC104p and PCI-104 specifications are compatible with the PCI2PC104p.
PCI Compatibility
PCI2PC104p is not PCI compliant. The PCI2PC104p has trace lengths in excess of the maximum specified by the PCI specification. The PCI2PC104p design includes several features to minimize the effects of the longer traces. The zero delay clock buffer keeps the PCI side of the clock length within specification, the series resistors and clamping diodes help to control the AD and control signals. Single PCI2PC104p adapters can be expected to work in any PCI bus stub. If you need to operate multiple adapters per stub please contact Dynamic Engineering about a bridged version of the design.
