Note: cPCIBPMC3U32 is the replacement for cPCIBPMC3U64ET. The 64 bit bridges are EOL. This version is a 32 bit cPCI implementation. The design is industrial temperature. Filtering, power distribution, PMC location have been retained. The rear IO is now routed with controlled impedance, and matched length.

cPCIBPMC3U32 is a 3U 4HP PMC adapter for cPCI. One PMC position is provided with a 32 bit interface for both the PMC and the cPCI backplane. User programmable VIO on the PMC side of the bridge. High capacity mini-planes with filtering for 3.3 and 5V.

A related product,, "cPCIBPMC6UET" is a 6U 4HP version with two PMC positions. The 6U version has both PMC IO connectors routed with equal length traces to J3 and J5. A PIM Carrier is available for the 6U model to support rear panel IO.

cPCIBPMC3U32 ( cPCI to PMC ) adapter / carrier converter card provides the ability to install a PMC card into a standard cPCI slot. cPCIBPMC3U32 has a PMC card slot mounted to a universal 3U 4HP cPCI card. Suitable for 32 width with 33/ 66 MHz bus operation. cPCIBPMC3U32 can be installed into a 64 bit system without the RIO option in place. The PMC bezel connector is mounted though the cPCI mounting bracket. cPCIBPMC3U32 is an extended temperature design. -40C to +85C standard. Conformal Coating is an option.

PCI VIO is interconnected to the primary side of the bridge. The secondary side of the bridge has programmable VIO allowing 5V PMCs to be used in 3V systems and vice-versa. The voltage select pins are not installed on cPCIBPMC3U32. The bridge will automatically adapt to the PCI bus reference voltage. Many PMCs are "universal" and can work with 3.3 or 5V cPCI backplanes.

Power is routed from the cPCI to PMC connectors with mini-planes each of which is rated for more than the maximum PMC draw. 3.3, 5, VIO, +12, -12

cPCIBPMC3U32 has low internal power dissipation. The dissipation is a function of the frequency and load from the installed PMC. For PMCs with higher power dissipation or for use in chassis with low airflow the Zero Slot fan option is recommended. The fans does not require an added slot and provides about 5 CFM of air movement.

With 3U cPCI, J2 has two definitions - in a 64 bit PCI implementation J2 has the upper A/D and control signals, and in a 32 bit PCI implementation J2 has the rear panel IO. cPCIBPMC3U32 has the Pn4/Jn4 IO from the PMC connected to J2.

If your project requires 64 bit PCI operation cPCI2PMC-64 can be ordered ito provide a passive 64 bit implementation.

cPCIBPMC3U32 Benefits

Speed
The bridge allows for isolation and for differing clock rates on the cPCI backplane and the PMC. Tested with the Dynamic Engineering PMC-Parallel-TTL-GPIO design using Target Read, Target Write, DMA read and DMA write, plus interrupts. -RIO models additionally tested with external loop-back. With the bridge design all PCI and cPCI specifications are met - in particular the impedance and length of the PCI traces.
Price
System level cost is best when reasonably priced reliable hardware is used and NRE minimized. With cPCIBPMC3U32, PMC can be utilized in a cPCI system. PMC Specification Compatibility
cPCIBPMC3U32 is PMC compliant per the VITA specification. All Dynamic Engineering PMC Modules are compatible with cPCIBPMC3U32. All other PMC Modules which are compliant with the VITA specification can be expected to work.
cPCI Compatibility
cPCIBPMC3U32 is a PCI compliant device. cPCIBPMC3U32 can be expected to work in any cPCI compliant backplane. Rear IO modules will need to be installed into backplane positions with RIO supported [not 64 bit PCI]. ESD strip is incorporated into the design. EMC gasket

The fan has been tested with high wattage PrPMC devices. Valid Fan options include: standard and Rz for low profile fans with fan direction toward PMC or pulling air from the PMC [R]. An additional option is to use standard height fans with more LFM. 8 CFM fans are available as rear mount only (add -FANR to PN for this option)
  • -RIO cPCIBPMC3U32 standard model with J2 and Jn4 installed for PMC Rear IO through carrier
  • -VIO3 Force to PCI 3.3V on secondary side - normally switch selectable between 3.3 and 5V PCI voltage reference.
