XMC-Connector-Saver Description

  • Install between XMC device and Carrier/Adapter
  • All signals interconnected between Jn5 and Pn5. 8 lanes, etc. 1 via per signal, reference planes used to maintain impedance.
  • Supports DMA, Interrupts, all PCIe modes
  • All signals including User Defined routed between Jn6 and Pn6 including all 36 grounds. 1 via per signal, planes used to maintain impedance.
  • All signals interconnected between Jn4 and Pn4 to support PMC style IO.
  • 1 year warranty standard.
XMC-Connector-Saver provides two mainfunctions. XMC connectors are more expensive and harder to replace than PMC connectors. XMC connectors also have much fewer insertions (~1/4) when compared to PMC. XMC-Connector-Saver is installed onto the device to protect. In addition situations can occur when you need more room. For example - add a heatsink to a hot device on your test board. Perhaps testing a conduction cooled board not mounted in the conduction cooled chassis. Perhaps additiional room for test points and probes. An extra 10 mm can make a difference. The adapters are stackable to create even more space should that be needed.

If you are using a carrier to test XMC devices, XMC-Connector-Saver is installed onto the carrier and held in place with the standard mounting hardware [10 mm standoffs]. The XMC to be tested is installed onto XMC-Connector-Saver. This will wear out the connectors on the "Saver" instead of the carrier.

If using the XMC to test the adapter XMC-Connector-Saver is mounted to the XMC. The standoffs are used to keep XMC-Connector-Saver connected to the XMC in this case. The wear is on the "Saver" instead of the XMC.

XMC-Connector-Saver when mounted adds 10 mm to the height between the main component surface of the mounted XMC and Carrier device. Most of the surface is limited to 4.7mm when mounted directly. With XMC-Connector-Saver in place the 4.7 mm dimension become 14.7 mm. Perhaps a low profile inductor is long lead, mounted in this way, an alternate part can be used until the preferred one arrives. Another use is with test points. With the added height more of the surface is available to add wiring etc. Adding a heat sink is another possibility. What will you do with the extra height to make your development more efficient?

Please also see XMC-UNIV-TEST which allows the XMC to be mounted vertically and most of the surface of the XMC is exposed for probing as a result.
